Second Baptist Church is committed to the growth and development of America’s youth. We believe education, spiritual growth and community service are the keys to success in today’s society. We have developed this scholarship program to assist individuals who have recently graduated and/or currently enrolled in college, in their pursuit of higher education.
We provide scholarship awards to Second Baptist Church members who have at least a 2.50 cumulative grade point average. Students should also be actively involved in leadership roles in their school, church, or community.
Applications for scholarships must be postmarked no later than Wednesday, August 31, 2011. Notification of awards will be made by September 2011. The minimum award amount will be $500 for the Second Baptist Church Scholarship and $1000 for the W.C. and Violene Webb Scholarship.
These Scholarship programs are for undergraduate students only.
Incomplete applications and facsimiles will not be considered. It would be advised that applicant make a copy for their records.

Each letter of recommendation should be placed in a sealed envelope and returned to the applicant to be included as part of the applicant package.
Historically, Second Baptist has done outreach programs in the community and is blessed by serving the youth, who are active members of the church with an annual church scholarship. Students graduating from elementary, middle, high school and higher educational institutions are recognized by a spiritual observance that celebrates their achievement, accomplishment and aspiration. The committee members prepare the program and administer the scholarship application process. In reiteration, we have developed these scholarship programs to assist individuals who are in their pursuit of higher education.

4. Active Membership (regular worship, Sunday School and ministry involvement)
5. Good Character Reference from a teacher, school administrator and community leader
6. Parent/Guardian support of Second Baptist Church (worship attendance, giving and ministry/community involvement)
7. Personal interview with the Scholarship Committee

The essay is an important part of the selection process. In reviewing the essays, the judges will consider the following criteria in selecting winners:
- correct use of grammar and punctuation
- creativity and originality in answering question
- quality of ideas presented
- relevancy of response to essay question/topic (answer essay question appropriately)
- overall appearance of the essay
