1. Reach persons for
Bible Study. The goal of the Sunday
School departments is to get as many people as possible engaged
in comprehensive and systematic Bible Study. 2. Teach the Bible. Teaching with the hope and purpose
that those who have not yet received Christ will, as their own readiness
under the leadership of the Holy Spirit leads them. Those who are
already Christians will respond to God with maturing faith, love
and obedience. 3. Witness to persons
about Christ and lead them into church membership. Members of Sunday
School who are Christians will share their faith with other members
and potential members who have not yet received Christ. With the
intent of leading the lost to receive Christ and to join the fellowship
of the church. 4. Minister to Sunday
School members and nonmembers (physically and spiritually). Sunday School members should be encouraged
to meet the needs of other persons in the spirit of Christ. This
may take the form of personal service, concrete acts of caring expressed
in material support, encouraging words, affirmations, or simply
taking the time to listen. This task is at the heart of loving and
caring fellowship. 5. Lead members to worship. The Sunday School should regularly
interpret the biblical teaching on worship and provide materials
for use in personal worship. The Sunday School should motivate individuals
and families to worship and guide them in doing so. 6. Interpret and undergird the work
of the church and the denomination. The Sunday School
should be available to present the goals, plans and activities of
the church and the denominations, and to explain their significance.
It also means that the Sunday School cooperatively supports the
work of the other church ministries and those of the denomination.
The Sunday School is an organization that is a part of the church
and the denomination.
